Advising Guide

Who is it for?

This hub is intended for use by students, K12 and higher education educators and advisors, youth-serving organizations and any other adult supporting young people through their college and career journey.

How did it come to be?

The need for Unified Advising was identified through the collaboration of leaders across K12 and postsecondary partners aimed at increasing postsecondary enrollment rates in Bexar County to prepare students for postsecondary success through the Equitable Enrollment Collaborative (EEC).  The EEC serves as an umbrella to several working groups happening within partner orgs and is a core part of the partnership infrastructure.

This training guide is part of a larger regional strategy to create a community of college and career advising across Bexar County. Through this work, we aim to ensure that every young person is connected to a safe and caring adult who not only supports their personal growth but also has the knowledge and resources to guide them along their future path after high school. These guides are part of a three-year advising journey that supports middle school students across Bexar County and align with the Future Ready Bexar County’s North Star goal of 70% Postsecondary enrollment by 2030 and are rooted in equity, youth voice, and caring adult relationships. This guide is written for any adult who supports youth, teachers, mentors, counselors, or youth-serving professionals. It requires no background in advising and includes scripts, prompts, and adaptable formats.
